Student Journey
After taking a placement test, each student is matched to the appropriate color-coded, Lexiled® library of fiction and non-fiction texts.
As they progress through the program, they level up to new libraries housing longer passages and more challenging text-based activities.
Generate a Personalized Library
Students begin the program with an adaptive test that matches them to the appropriate color-coded reading level. They can then select which topics they would like to read about, ultimately generating a library that aligns with their interests and abilities.
Complete Readings
Upon logging in, students see a snapshot of their proficiency progress. They can then select from an assortment of high-interest fiction and non-fiction readings within their Lexile® range. Each text is paired with adaptive, text-based questions focusing on comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar.
Receive Feedback and Support
As students work through their activities, they receive automated, adaptive feedback, hints, and scaffolding as well as additional mini-lessons to support key reading comprehension skills.
Monitor Progress
To build excitement, students can readily view completed stories, preview upcoming texts, and track progress toward new colors on their My Page as they set reading goals for the future.Â
Build Fluency
Twice in each level, students record themselves reading texts aloud as they progress toward proficiency. Aligned to the Lexile® range of each level, these practice activities offer students an opportunity to build fluency and assess their comprehension.
Level Up
Once students have reached proficiency within their color level, they will automatically be leveled up to a new library color with fresh reading selections to ensure they are continuously challenged and engaged in their learning.
Data-Driven Learning
Activities throughout SRA Reading Laboratory generate rich data that shapes students’ journey from one level to the next, providing teachers with actionable insights for
monitoring reading and fluency growth at an individual and class level.
Embedded Literacy Skills Practice
Each reading is paired with five comprehension questions that include adaptive supports and text scaffolds. Based on student performance, mini-lessons are automatically generated to provide explicit instruction, modeling, and application to target and reinforce relevant skills.
Paired with each reading, vocabulary questions allow students to practice identifying word meaning from context and using those same words in new contexts. Students additionally explore word relationships including synonyms, antonyms, compound word building, multiple meaning words, homophones, and homographs. Â
As students' reading level increases, they will practice progressively complex grammar skills so that they can understand both structure and content. Grammar questions related to each text explore correct punctuation, parts of speech, and more.
Instructional Insights
SRA Reading Laboratory equips teachers with a wealth of tools to manage and monitor students' reading and fluency growth. Actionable reports provide meaningful insights into student independent work and progress.
Class Progress Report
For quick insights into class progress, the Student Details report provides a summary of each student’s learning. This bird’s-eye view helps identify students who are nearing proficiency in their level and those who may be struggling.
Track Student Growth
With individual student reports, teachers can track the proficiency and growth of each student for meaningful insights into their reading journeys.
